This modern representation of the M1917 Naval Cutlass is forged from steel taken from the Battleship Texas surrounding a solid high carbon steel core. This three layer construction is known as “San Mai”. The guard is hammered mild steel which has been blackened to prevent reflection. The handle is a 3 piece frame handle construction, with African Blackwood scales and a rubberized micarta frame, which adds grip and assists in indexing the blade. Inside the handle, the tang of the blade goes nearly the entire distance of the handle and is almost as wide as the blade itself. The overall length of the sword is 27” with a cutting edge of 22.5”.
