For this one-of-a-kind blade, I used hull steel recovered from the USS Texas, pieces of minigun barrels recovered from my crash site south of Fallujah where my AH-6 was shot down, and pieces of World Trade Center steel gifted to me on 11 September 2022 by Steve and Lora Schwarzer.
I named this knife the USS Texas Leon Fighter after MSG Leon Hanson, who was a good buddy of mine for many years. He was a Ranger and fire supporter in Delta Force. We invaded Afghanistan together on 19 October 2001. Leon took his life on 26 June 2015, and I wanted to honor him. While designing this knife, I wanted a fighting knife, like Leon, that was versatile.
There are several different patterns showing in the layers of Damascus steel. The harpoon style blade is 0.250 inches thick with a smooth thumb rest and a brass hand guard that I made from a piece of brass trim that came off of the USS Texas. The handle is made from the ship’s deck wood and facilitates both left- and right-hand use for a forward or reverse grip. The mosaic pins represent the Dillon Aero M-134 miniguns that I carried on each side of my AH-6 Little Bird. SGDM! RLTW!
